Our Tools
Focus-First Tech
While an abundance of educational technology exists online, too many platforms undermine their value with dizzying ads and dopamine-hacking gamification. Deep and lasting learning is rarely prioritized, and many students succumb to distraction before they get the chance to hone their skills or increase their understanding.
At a time when focus is becoming a lost art—yet remains crucial for academic success and top test scores—Peak Prep has invested in developing high-quality skill-building tools with no ads and minimal gamification. Our custom platform provides a space for students to work independently and free from distraction to practice Math and English concepts and prepare themselves for digital standardized testing.
We've used AI, not to replace human interaction, but to build tools and platforms that handle logistics, homework assignments, and progress tracking, further allowing our tutors to devote their focus to ensuring students' success.
Why Remote?
While we do offer in-person tutoring in New York City and the Catskills, we consider remote tutoring to be the superior option in many ways.
All Peak Prep tutors are trained in best practices for one-on-one Zoom instruction, including how to help students set up their workspace and maintain maximum focus. Each tutor uses a drawing tablet and pen to write on an interactive chalkboard or annotate directly onto shared worksheets and practice tests in real time. For students preparing to take digital exams like the SAT or ISEE, virtual tutoring offers the opportunity to practice working and reading off a screen from day one, while in academic tutoring, students and tutors can access schools' online homework platforms together and have a myriad of digital teaching tools ready to be integrated into instruction at a moment's notice.
Virtual sessions also offer much more flexibility in scheduling and session length. Students can meet with their tutor between classes and practices, or in some cases even during a free period, and work can continue uninterrupted during summer travel. And with remote tutoring, the price is lower—not because the service is lesser, but because commute time isn't baked into the hourly rate. By eliminating the need to travel from lesson to lesson, remote tutoring enables our tutors to offer their time and energy more fully to every student.
With remote-only tutoring, Peak Prep students have been accepted to Yale, Columbia, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Vanderbilt, University of Chicago, Northwestern, and many other top institutions.
The Mogs
mog /mɒɡ/ • verb
to decisively outshine others in a specific field or act; to be superior
Language(s) of origin: Gen-Z slang, TikTok
All Peak Prep students have access to a series of proprietary training modules built into our online tutoring platform. These “mogs” offer ad-free and distraction-free instruction in both math and language, helping students to improve their automaticity with fundamental skills and independently drill the work they're doing in lessons at any time and in any place.
By integrating these high-quality and adaptive exercises directly into our platform, we've eliminated the need for students to remember multiple logins to different accounts and created a one-stop-shop for focused practice that strengthens crucial academic and thinking skills as a supplement to the work they do with their tutor.
The mogs offer students the deliberate, targeted practice they need and nothing more, all in one place.
Formula Mog
for memorization and retention
Slow and sloppy recall of vital formulas is a surefire way to tank an otherwise promising Math score. Formula Mog helps students master all formulas included on the SAT using adaptive spaced repetition and active retrieval, methods shown to improve retention.
Mog Logic
for inference skills
It's one thing to read and understand, but to apply that understanding with precision and clarity takes practice. Mog Logic trains students to identify the details they'll need to draw accurate conclusions, a central skill for tests like the SAT.
Math Mog
for mental math skills
Mental math fluency isn't just about speed; it's about conserving brainpower. Math Mog provides practice to help fundamental calculations become automatic, so students can bank time on easy questions and tackle harder ones with less cognitive strain.
